Hardware Choice Doesn’t Need to be a Hard Choice

Offering a variety of hardware to customers is crucial for window and door fitting companies. Every customer is different and will have different wants and needs, however, you’ll never go wrong offering the highest quality available. In this hardware guide, we’ll go through the different types of hardware you’ll need to consider for your customers, and the options you have available to offer.

Window and Door Hardware Types

You will need to offer your customers three main window and door hardware types: handles, hinges, and locks. Offering a variety of high-quality hardware choices from leading brands will ensure that your customers find the perfect style for their home or business.

Door and Window Hinges

It is crucial to select hinges that will be able to withstand the rigours of daily use, as well as be aesthetically pleasing.

To withstand the heavy use that windows and doors go through, high-quality friction stays for windows, or pivoted hinges for doors, should be used to ensure robust and long-lasting operation.

Door Handles and Locks

With handles being the most frequent touchpoint of a door, it’s important that you offer options that suit the customer’s preferences. Likewise, a door is meant to offer security to a property, making your lock offering a crucial factor in helping to sell the product.

A variety of door handle colours are available. Some of the most common door handle colours include:

  • White
  • Black
  • Chrome
  • Gold
  • Silver

The type of handle can be customised depending on the kind of door, for example, uPVC residential and French doors can be supplied with Lever/Lever or Lever/Pad handles only, whilst composite doors also have the ability to be fitted with architectural pull bar handles in a variety of lengths to suit personal preference.

As with hinges and handles, a wide range of locks are available on the market. Many different brands of locks and styles are available for doors, but we’ve partnered with two of the leading manufacturers, Ingenious Locks and Yale, to be able to offer high levels of security, from brands that your customers are likely to recognise and associate with quality and security.

You may also want to upsell an upgrade to a high-security cylinder for the door for the security-conscious customer. The high-security cylinder offers maximum security against known attack methods which has been independently tested by BSI and is awarded TS007:2014 3-Star accreditation.

Window Handles and Locks

Window handles also come in different colours, with some of the most common being:

  • White
  • Black
  • Chrome
  • Gold
  • Silver

With this range of colour options, your customers can be assured that there’s something to match their theme.
